Snowstorms and Air Conditioners

March 17, 2016

We haven’t completely escaped winter in Cape Coral just yet. Mother Nature may have a few nice days, but she’s always prepared to remind us that she’s in charge. So when she does finally let up and it starts to warm up, read below so you won’t want to have to unexpectedly call a repairman out out for air conditioner service.

Heavy snowfall may bury your air conditioner in the snow, hurting its performance when the temperatures begin to warm up for the season. Not to mention it can hinder a high-efficiency system from performing as such. The situation could become an even bigger problem too if you don’t prep for it with an annual air conditioner service appointment.

There are steps you can take as a homeowner to help your air conditioner run properly even though snow has fallen or could fall in the coming days and weeks.

  1. Maintain a 3-foot/1-meter clearance around your air conditioner. Check the area routinely to be sure that it stays clear and that there are no snow drifts or piles of debris that could have piled up through the winter.
  2. Contrary to what you may think, putting a cover over your air conditioner could end up doing more damage than you’d expect. A covered air conditioner could be inviting for rodents looking for shelter from the weather and start to call it home, leading to damage to the system as they roam about.

While the weather in Cape Coral will more than likely swing up and down over the last few days of winter, you can’t count out the possibility of weather that can impact the performance of your air conditioner. At Comfort Zone, LLC in Cape Coral, we are always available to check any areas around your home or answer any of your questions, whether they’re related to air conditioner service or adding a new system.
